In a box - photosynthesis art installation

What if nature took over the world? What would it look like? And what the heck is photosynthesis? Those questions are going to be answered in this blog post, or at least the last question.

This project I started as a school collaboration project between the biology class and the visual arts class in secondary school. The ideas was for the youngsters from biology class to go out and pick up different kinds of soil and put it in to boxes and give those boxes to the visual arts class pupils. Then the visual arts pupils made small installations inside the box, on to the soil. The pupils had free hands in choosing what kind of installation it would be, but for inspiration I told them about Minimal Street Art and showed them picture of what I´ve done as street art.

When their installations are done the boxes are going to be watered down and sealed so no air can get out or in. A so called closed ecosystem. Then, the boxes are placed on a sunny spot  in the school building so all pupils can follow the project and see how nature starts to take over the installations.

This is a super simple project and easily made anywhere at any time. It is also very interesting and fun to document the evolvement for the biology class pupils. And that is exactly what I am going to do on this blog. I have now collected my soil, made my installation, watered it down and placed it on a sunny spot. So let the fun begin!

The natural things you do

Throwing a stone or some other object down from a high place is probably as natural as shouting in a tunnel. This is a tribute to the unexplained things we do.

The character used in this installation is not made by me. A group of guys gave this character to me after a workshop and I promissed to use it in a installation somewhere. This is where I left it. In a lookout tower in Finström, Åland.

Minimal Street Art Workshop

The last month alot of thing have been happening around Minimal Street Art. I have a exhibition coming up and I have held about five workshops so far. Here are some pics from those workshops.

First we drew some sketches

Then we burned the characters

After that we painted them a few days later

Finally we put them out and photographed our installations.

Inspired by fantasy

Lately I have been very inspired by fantasy characters and tales. That is why my latest characters are more fantasy like. I am very eager to get new characters out on the streets but the snow is still stopping me or holding me back.

I also start to have a big pile of unpainted characters that I should paint. I am very much looking forward to painting them all. Some of them are probably for a exhibition and some are meant for the streets.

Last week I was very busy telling teens about street art and what I do. I think it was a succesful week from what I´ve heard and experienced. I just hope I inspired the youngsters to try street art in any form.

Coming up in march is a few Minimal Street Art workshops with the Helsinki City Culture Central. More about that later. Peace and love!
